The Project

John Wright were appointed as Yorkshire Electrical Contractors to undertake major electrical contract work for William Birch and Son for a new design and build Sports Centre, Malton, Yorkshire.

The project was to provide an indoor sports facility along with changing facilities and an outdoor Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) pitch for both the school and also for local residents.

The Solution

We provided all the electrical contract services.

Power, General lighting, CCTV, Intruder and Fire Alarm Systems, Disabled Alarm, PA System and induction hearing loops along with a New Data System. Lighting to the MUGA pitch was carried out utilising Abacus raise / lower columns for ease of maintenance.

New electric mains were run from the main school to new distribution equipment within the sports hall plant room, with supplies taken to feed the external MUGA pitch lighting.

General and Emergency lighting was designed and installed to achieve economic and cost effective yet energy efficient, to achieve Breeam requirements.

The Fire Alarm was linked back to the school’s system to show fire, fault signals along with the digital CCTV system. This was installed using fibre optic cabling linked back to the main school.

The MUGA pitch lighting required special consideration and design due to the bats living in the local vicinity. This was achieved by the use of specially designed reflectors installed and manufactured within the fittings to avoid light spillage away from the local hedge rows.

Project completed on time and on budget.
