Case Study | Whitby Abbey

Whitby Abbey, Visitor Centre in North Yorkshire

The Project

This was a very challenging project, the client, English heritage have a responsibility to take care of the existing structures which involved designing the electrical services around the existing structure to enhance the building.

The Solution

We utilised a stainless steel floor trunking and steel conduit systems to supply general power / data throughout the building for the retail area.

The lighting was designed to enhance the oak latted ceilings with recessed high level lighting general / emergency and feature lighting.

Other services within the building included Lightning Protection utilising the building structure and foundations, CCTV, fire alarm installation and intruder alarms as well as the heating controls.

We also had the responsibility of installing the external lighting to the Abbey itself to enhance its mystery and features. As this is located on the headland it could be seen for miles around so obtaining the correct lamp colour to enhance the stonework was the critical part of this installation. We used a combination of both Metal halide AND Son lamps to achieve this.
