Bleachfield Student Accommodation, York University

Acoustic Solution

The Project

This project involved the building of six number 3 and 4 storey accommodation blocks along with a amenity block. This involved networking the addressable site wide fire alarm system so the new accommodation blocks could be seen back at the security building.

The Solution

The remote monitoring was made possible by the use of fibre optic cables and associated fibre adaptors.
Other aspects of the installation included main electric distribution from a new sub station to each block. Local general power was installed to each student bedroom within dado trunking above the workstation with local individual RCD (Residual circuit device) protection.
Lighting / emergency lighting was designed and installed with the use of energy efficient fittings and control equipment so the communal areas were not left on by the students. This was installed utilising the latest PIR Technology.
Data throughout the complex was installed to CAT5E standards with fibre links back to the main university mainframe. External street lighting was designed and installed throughout the walkways to ensure students felt safe at night walking through the campus.

Our client Morgan Sindall stated in a letter at the end of the project

"Our success would not have been possible without the active participation of both yourself and your on site personnel, whose attitude belief and commitment to our perfect delivery policy of continuous business improvement were a vital constituent in achieving the completion dates in what were very difficult working conditions."
"All of our staff involved with the development of the project, our directors and myself would like to thank you and your staff for your invaluable contribution in achieving the handover dates, and we look forward to working in close partnership with you in the future."
